Radio Swiss Jazz is SRG SSR’s premier radio station for jazz. Every day, we offer our listeners a colourful mix of music – comprising JAZZ, SOUL and BLUES – around the clock. Our music programmers attach a great deal of importance to home-grown output. Swiss productions and works recorded by Swiss musicians account for a very high percentage of our music repertoire (see below for figures).
Designing a radio station to satisfy the wishes of each and every listener is like trying to square a circle – and that applies all the more to music programming. In creating its schedule, Radio Swiss Classic therefore pays very close attention to audience research:
These surveys repeatedly show that our listeners are not especially fond of older jazz styles, which is why these play a marginal role in our programming and are included only with the greatest of care. Wherever possible, more modern versions of older jazz standards are aired. In other respects, Radio Swiss Jazz listeners are very tolerant, although they show a preference for melodic jazz, blues, soul and Latin rhythms.
