Julian Remo Perretta[1] (born 13 January 1991) is an English singer-songwriter, producer, guitarist, best known for his song, "Wonder Why," which was the first single released from his 2011 debut "Stitch Me Up". The single topped charts across Europe, and sold over 1 million copies worldwide.

Personal life

Perretta was born in London to Italian parents, having one sister[2] Perretta left school at 15 to pursue a career in music. Playing regular live sets at The Water Rats in Kings Cross and other pubs and bars around central London he developed a fan base. Perretta worked during this time at Starbucks Coffee and The Queens head pub in North London.

Music career

Shortly after leaving school, he met the members of the band Jamiroquai and began working on demos.

Perretta's sound has been compared to Shuggie Ottis, Jamiroquai and The Rolling Stones.

While he is British, the singer found first success outside of the UK, especially in France, Belgium, Switzerland The Netherlands and Germany.

In May 2008, he joined Mark Ronson and Amy Winehouse on a European tour, singing the Smiths' song, "Stop Me".

In November 2009, Beyoncé heard a demo of the singer through a colleague, and invited Perretta to be special guest on her "I Am" Arena Tour. Perretta opened alongside Kanye West and Jay-Z.

Jamiroquai went on to produce Perretta's debut LP.

Universal Music Group signed him in 2010.

In January 2010, the first single "Wonder Why" received its first play on national radio. BBC Radio 1 presented the single by host Annie Mac to a positive response by the British public.

In October 2010 the singer performed on French television shows Le Grand Journal and Taratata.

The first single from the album, "Wonder Why" topped radio airplay and iTunes charts around Europe, reaching platinum status. The album, Stitch Me Up was released on 27 September 2010 and received positive reviews from critics. The album debuted was certified platinum, charting in France at number 1 and performing reasonably well in Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Holland.

Perretta followed up Wonder Why with the title track of the album, Stitch Me Up. The single reached the top ten in France but failed to see the same success as its predecessor around Europe.

From March 2011, Perretta toured Europe, playing a total of 114 shows.

In October 2011 Universal released a deluxe edition of the album Stitch Me Up as a Christmas re-edition. It contained 7 new tracks including acoustic versions and behind the scenes videos of the singer on tour. A promotional video for Perretta's 4th single "Ride My Star" was released online on October 19, 2011.

From 18 July to 19 August 2012 Perretta completed his Stitch Me Up tour in Milan, Italy, the debut album having taken the singer on the 3 major European tours.

Perretta and Ed Sheeran toured across Europe together from November 2012. Playing original and cover songs onstage, such as Ginuwine, 'Pony'.

Perretta signed to Cherry Tree/ Interscope Records in the US in January 2014.

A second album is expected in early 2014.
