Christopher Andrew "Chris" Tsangarides is a Greek Cypriot-British Grammy-nominated record producer, sound engineer, and mixer. He is best known for his work with many heavy metal bands, including Judas Priest, Anvil, Gary Moore, Thin Lizzy, Helloween, Angra and Yngwie Malmsteen. Tsangarides has worked with many pop and alternative artists as well, including Depeche Mode, Tom Jones, and Concrete Blonde.

Career

Tsangarides began engineering in 1975 at Morgan Studios (later Battery Studios) in London, where he assisted on Judas Priest's album Sad Wings of Destiny. Their further collaboration on Painkiller earned them a Grammy nomination in 1991.

In 1991 he produced Ian Gillan's Toolbox album, considered to be one of the finest records in the singer's discography.

1999 saw a collaboration for Tsangarides as a performer and writer with Shin Hae-Chul in the techno/metal act Monocrom. They made one album and did an arena tour in Shin's native Korea.

In 2006, Tsangarides opened his own recording facility, Ecology Room Studios in Kent, England.[1]

In June 2007, Tsangarides entered the studio with the UK band LunarMile.[2] LunarMile's members include Toni-Marie Iommi (daughter of Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi) and Alex Hill (son of Judas Priest's Ian Hill)

Since 2006, Tsangarides has worked on albums with: Anvil, Mountain, Savage Messiah, Spit Like This, Crowning Glory, Kings Call, Glyder, Ethan Brosh, Solenoid, The Delfins, Anthem, Biomechanical, Matt Mays & El Torpedo, Bitches Sin, The Haze, Dave Cousins, King Lizard, Cirkus, Breaker, The Strawbs, HEX, Blanco Diablo, Stray and Briar Rose.

Tsangarides is featured in Sacha Gervasi's documentary film Anvil! The Story of Anvil, released in 2009.[3]

Tsangarides spoke about his career on an episode of The Rock Show LIVE!, available on edition #60 of the show's podcast, released on Sunday 6 September 2009 at The Rock Show website.

In February 2012 Tsangarides announced details of a new record label Dark Lord Records formed with The Strawbs frontman Dave Cousins. The first release on the new label was "Normalityville Horror" by Spit Like This on 21st May.

Tsangarides occasionally plays guitar and performs live with the band Exmore / More 2012.[4]
